I live in North Grafton Massachusetts.
I have been interested in astrophotography since high school back in the late
1970's. At that time my scope was an 8" f/6 Meade Newtonian reflector. Imaging
was done on film with a Minolta SRT101 35mm camera. Guiding was done with a
small joystick while looking thru a guide scope. Exposure time was controlled by
moving a flat black square of cardboard over the top of the telescope tube.
Unfortunately after graduating from high school I got away
from astrophotography.
In 1996 while living in Pleasanton California
when Comet Hale-Bopp was visible, I started to get re-interested
in astronomy and astrophotography again and bought an 8" Meade LX200. I also joined the
Tri-Valley Stargazers club and spent a couple years observing and imaging with
the 8" scope. Imaging at this time was still on film. I moved back to
Massachusetts in 1999 and astrophotography got put on hold a few more years.
In 1999 I built my first pier out of concrete behind my house in South Grafton,
Massachusetts. Some limited imaging with the 8" LX200 and a Starlight Express
MX7C CCD camera was done here before I moved to North Grafton in 2004.
In 2007 I built a permanent pier behind my home in North Grafton to hold my current scope which is a 12" Meade LX200GPS. Imaging is still currently being done with the MX7C. As I begin to learn and image with my new scope, hopefully I can update this web site with new images.
In 2009 I installed a SkyShed POD over the pier so I could reduce setup and take down time. In addition to the POD, I upgraded my CCD camera from the half megapixel (almost) to a 6 megapixel Orion StarShoot Pro V2.
